Carpenter, Stanley M., 91, of Manheim, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in East Hempfield Township, he was the son of the late Leroy and Mary Musselman Carpenter. He was the husband of the late Laura Wagner who died in 2017 and his first wife, the late Thelma J. Landis Carpenter, died in 1994. A lifelong farmer, Stanley owned and operated his farm in East Hempfield Township. He was a member of East Petersburg Mennonite Church. Stanley enjoyed hunting, traveling to the mountains, and he loved to spend time with his family.
Surviving are five children, John W. husband of Mary Carpenter of Landisville, Joyce E. wife of Kenneth Frey of Mount Joy, Mary Jane wife of Bill Sensenig of Stevens, Jay S. husband of Ruth Carpenter of Lancaster, and James R. husband of Arlene Carpenter of Lancaster, 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two step-sons, J. Lester husband of Cheryl Wagner of Ephrata and J. Mark husband of Leone Wagner of Lititz, a brother, Sterling M. Carpenter of Ohio and a sister, Laura Mae wife of Lester Kreider of Lititz. He was preceded in death by a brother, Sidney M. Carpenter.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Hoffer Auditorium, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:30 AM. Friends may visit with the family at Hoffer Auditorium from 10:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in East Petersburg Mennonite Cemetery.
Charles, Mary Elizabeth Denlinger, 86, of Lancaster and Sarasota, FL, passed from this life to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Oak Leaf Manor, Landisville. She was born in Lancaster on November 16, 1931 to the late Landis and Celia Arment Denlinger. She and her husband Vernon Herr Charles celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death in 2011.
Mary will be forever remembered as a dedicated wife who pushed through the challenges of being married to a handicapped husband, with an air of grace, in a way that brought dignity and lavish love to Vernon all the way to the end of his life.
Mary loved God and had a heart for lost souls. She loved her country, expressed through her passionate involvement in politics. Mary cherished the flag and all the good it stands for. She loved people, and people loved her back.
Mary's natural skill set was design. She developed beauty from things that were not inherently lovely. She had a silk flower business for many years and spent much of her life gardening for the joy it brought to others. Her homes, on Leabrook Rd., Lancaster, Sarasota, and the cottage at Landisville Camp Meeting were always places where love of beauty and people merged.
Surviving Mary are her children, Curtis Charles, husband of June and Bill Charles, husband of Mindy, both of Lancaster, and Lynette, wife of Ray Huber of Landisville; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; son-in-law Bill Wertz of Sarasota, brother Leroy Denlinger, husband of Nancy of Rohrerstown and her dear friend John Zimmerman.
In addition to her parents and loving husband Vernon, Mary was predeceased by their children Frederick Charles and Elizabeth Charles Wertz and her siblings, Verna, Landis and Ivan Denlinger.
A viewing will take place 6-8 PM Friday, Nov. 9th at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. The celebration of Mary's life will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, Nov. 10th at the funeral home, with Rev. K. Eugene Forrey officiating. Private interment in Salunga Mennonite Cemetery. Charlton Daniel Wayne, 65, of McAlisterville passed into eternal rest with Jesus at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville on January 8, 2018.
He was born on August 20, 1952, in Carlisle, a son of the late Fred and Cora (Weber) Charlton. His wife of 42 years, Mary Alice (Graybill) Charlton, whom he married on March 15, 1975, survives him.
Also surviving are 5 sons and 6 daughters, Doris Hoover and her husband Jay, of Richfield, D. Wayne Charlton and his wife Rachael (Widrick), of Richfield, Mark Charlton of Richfield, Dorothy Widrick and her husband Emmanuel, of Copenhagen, NY, Marlin Charlton and his wife Sharon (Kauffman) of McAlisterville, Janet Burkholder and her husband Dennis of Lowville, NY, Marilyn Charlton of Soxworth, MS, Karen Charlton of Kenton, OH, Jay Charlton and his wife Aremina (Yoder), of Mifflintown, John Charlton of McAlisterville, Mary Zeiset and her husband Justin of Liberty, MS; 3 sisters, Esther Charlton of Hagerstown, MD, Miriam Martin and her husband John David of Greencastle, Lois Charlton of Hagerstown, MD and 19 grandchildren.
Mr. Charlton was a member of the Goodwill Mennonite Church, Thompsontown.
A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, from the Millerstown Mennonite Church, 731 Raccoon Valley Road, Millerstown, PA with the Goodwill Mennonite Ministry officiating. Interment will follow in the Goodwill Mennonite Cemetery, Thompsontown.
Viewing will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018 and from 1 - 3 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Millerstown Mennonite Church.
Cooper, Tina Marie Nunemaker

GOSHEN - Tina Marie Cooper, 39, Goshen, died at 9:32 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2018, at Goshen Hospital.
She was born on June 18, 1978, in Bremen to Bob and Gwen (Wenger) Nunemaker. She married Josh Cooper on Sept. 12, 2015.
Surviving are her husband, Josh Cooper, Goshen; children Cameron Comadoll, Genesis Comadoll, William Cooper and Charlie Cooper; father Bob Nunemaker, Goshen; siblings, Stacy (Milt) Glick and Brooke (Mike Dabbert) Martin, both of Wakarusa, and Amber Landis and Robert Nunemaker Jr., both of Goshen; grandmother Bessie Wenger, Wakarusa; and grandfather John Nunemaker, Goshen.
Preceding her in death are her mother, Gwen, an infant son, Khristian Comadoll, and a sister, Christy Nunemaker.
Tina graduated from Bethany High School in 1997. She was a member of Holdeman Mennonite Church, a homemaker and muse. She enjoyed mowing the yard, cooking, camping, riding bicycles and always liked keeping herself busy.
Visitation will be from 12 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018, at Holdeman Mennonite Church, 65723 CR 1, Wakarusa, with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. Pastor BJ Leichty will officiate. Burial will be at Olive (East) Cemetery at a later date.

Cooper, Tina Marie Nunemaker, 39, Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN died June 8, 2018 at the same place after suffering a stroke.
She was born June 18, 1978 at Goshen to Robert "Bob" and Gwen (Wenger) Nunemaker. Robert was born August 17, 1955 and survives. Gwen was born May 16, 1954 and died March 2, 2018.
On September 12, 2015 at Goshen, she was married to Joshua "Josh" Cooper, who was born January 7, 1981 and survives.
Surviving are children, Cameron Comadoll, Genesis Comadoll, William Cooper, and Charlie Cooper and her siblings, Stacy (Milt) Glick, Brooke (Mike Dabbert) Martin, Amber Landis, and Robert Nunemaker, Jr.
A son, Khristian Comadoll and a sister, Christy Nunemaker
preceded her in death.
Memorial services were held June 15, 2018 at Holdeman Mennonite Church, Wakarusa, Elkhart Co., IN. Cremation has taken place.
Chupp, Dema Swartzentruber, went home to her Lord and Savior, surrounded by family at her Rock of Ages home near McMinnville, on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 16 days. Born July 10, 1930 in Oklahoma to Menno and Esther (Stutzman) Swartzentruber.
She began grade school in Oklahoma and then moved to Oregon at the age of 7 where she completed her elementary education in Amity, Oregon.
She grew up in an Amish family, learning to work on the family farm, milking cows by hand and learned many tasks on a dairy farm at a young age. The farm was without electricity until the mid 1950's.
On June 28, 1951 she married the love of her life, Andrew A. Chupp at the family farm. They enjoyed 66 years together. They lived on the family farm for 11 years where their family continued to grow. They had two daughters and four sons. The family then moved to another farm close by for 4 years before moving to Astoria for the next 4 years then back to the Willamette Valley near Dayton.
Dema was a homemaker, enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, helped her children on paper routes and seasonal harvesting. She also enjoyed crocheting; gifting many of her afghans to those she loved. She was the hub of family activities, nurturing, disciplining, encouraging, not only her own children, but many others by teaching Sunday school and other children activities.
After all of her children were in school, she was employed by the Dayton School District as a cook and custodian, where she could keep an eye on her children.
Dema maintained a sense of humor. Up to her last day, when asked how she was feeling she would rub her fingers together and say "with my fingers". She touched and blessed many lives wherever she went with her positive attitude.
She gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized in her youth. She was faithfully involved in Church work all her life, in addition to Sunday school and Bible school she and Andrew were youth sponsors. She also was faithful helping the ladies sewing circle at the Sheridan Mennonite Church where she was a member doing relief work for the needy. She had a servant heart.
When their children were grown, Dema and Andrew, in their mid-fifties, embarked on a mission only the young at heart would do. They headed to language school in Texas to learn Spanish and on to the mission filed in Zacatecas, Mexico, for seven years where again Dema's gentle spirit touched the hearts of children and adults while they both showed Christ's love.
After serving on the mission field they moved to Florida where they continued to serve others taking care of Dema's father in his later years until his passing. They moved back to Oregon in 2001 to be close to their children and in 2012 made their home at Rock of Ages Retirement Village.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Marion; five brothers, Enos, Elmer, Norman, Menno Jr. and Valentine; three sisters, Mattie, Bertha, and Ruth.
Dema is survived by her husband Andrew, their children, Ruth D'Agostino, Lynnwood, WA; Twila (Delvin) Zook, McMinnville, OR; Gordon (Wilma) Chupp, McMinnville, OR; Steven (Deanna) Chupp, Nappannee, IN; Calvin (Peggy) Chupp, Dayton, OR; 19 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two sisters, Naomi Swartz and Irene Shearer as well as many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 21st, 10:00am, at Sheridan Mennonite Church, 240 SW Madison St. in Sheridan. A burial services will follow at the Mennonite Cemetery on Sawtell Road.
Viewing will be Saturday, January 20th at Macy and Son from 4-7pm. In memory of Dema contributions can be made to Christian Aid Ministries at: christianaidministries.org.
As a family we are grateful to the Church and many friends for your prayers and support. We as a family are so thankful to Dad who took very special care of Mom during her many days of weakness. We also are thankful for the Rock of Ages MAIDS staff who supported Dad in Mom's care. A special thanks for the care given by Paula and other Hospice nurses. Dad is also grateful for all the support.

NAPPANEE - Edward “Eddie” Chupp, 82, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018, at his residence.
He was born June 30, 1936, in Nappanee, to John C. and Susan (Yoder) Chupp.
On May 19, 1960, he married Alta Otto.
He is survived by his wife, Alta Chupp and sister-in-law Mary Chupp of Bremen.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Jay Chupp; brothers Floyd, Monass, and William Chupp; sisters Kate Borkholder, Barbara Mullet, Fannie Miller, Lydia Mae Hochstetler, Mary Schwartz, Edna Schwartz, and Elizabeth Chupp.
Family and friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, and all day Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Dannie Borkholder residence, 30869 C.R. 146, Nappanee.
Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 31, also at the Dannie Borkholder residence.
Burial will be in Borkholder Cemetery.

Chupp, Levi S., age 85, of Etna Green, died at 9:40 a.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at his residence. He was born May 31, 1933 in Nappanee to Samuel C. and Amanda (Borkholder) Chupp. On September 26, 1963 he married Mary J. Yoder.
Levi was a lifetime area resident. He worked at Holiday Rambler and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary J. Chupp; children, Lyle (Mary) Chupp, and Merle (Kathy) Chupp, both of Etna Green, Norman (Margaret) Chupp, Nappanee, Lee Alan (Carolyn) Chupp, Etna Green, John Chupp, at home, Vera Chupp, Millersburg, OH, Rosetta Chupp, at home, Marlin (Rebecca) Chupp, and Paul (Maria) Chupp, both of Nappanee; 35 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Byler, Nappanee, Verna Bontrager and Elizabeth (Ralph) Miller, both of Goshen, Barbara Burkholder, Nappanee; sisters-in-law, Esther Chupp and Alma Stutzman, both of Nappanee. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Chupp; granddaughters, Julia, Martha and Ruth Chupp; brothers, Joe, Eli, Emanuel, John, and Jacob Chupp; and sisters, Amanda Chupp, Mattie Hershberger, Lydian Chupp, and Katie Burkholder.

BREMEN - Mary Chupp, 92, of Bremen, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at her residence after a long illness.
She was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Kosciusko County to Gilbert and Lydiann (Yoder) Hochstetler. She married William J. Chupp on Nov. 10, 1949. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Chupp is survived by her daughter, Wilma Weaver; grandchildren Juanita Dick, Loren Slabaugh, Teresa Slabaugh, Jerry J. Slabaugh III, Galen Slabaugh and Jeff Slabaugh; 10 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Katie Schmucker, Lydia Mae Hochstetler and Leanna Yoder; and brother Norman Hochstetler.
Family and friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, and all day Tuesday at the Michael and Pauline Schwartz residence, 241 5B Road. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, also at the Schwartz residence.

Aug. 29, 2006 - April 14, 2018
NEW PARIS - Mya Diane Chupp, 11, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, at home.
She was born Aug. 29, 2006, in South Bend.
Mya is survived by her parents, Craig and Maria (Nice) Chupp; two siblings, Kaylena and Cody Chupp; grandparents Carl and Loretta Chupp and LeRoy and Marilyn Nice; and great-grandparents Lester and Gloria Eigsti.
A fifth-grader at Prairie View Elementary, Mya was nonverbal with many health issues.
In spite of all that, people were drawn to her.
She was a happy girl with a huge, glowing smile and sparkly eyes.
Her smile was her super power.
She had no interest in toys or electronics but enjoyed watching the people around her and being “out and about”.
Mya loved Sunday school, listening to stories, physical therapy, school and snuggling on the couch.
She was a very special girl who left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Mya’s family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 20, at Maple City Chapel where a celebration of her life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21.
Pastor Gary Miller will officiate.
Cremation will follow the service.
Memorials may be given to Make a Wish Foundation.

Claassen, Alfred H., 93, of Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA died December 2, 2018 at the same place from cancer.
He was born February, 2, 1925 at Beatrice, Gage Co., NE to Aron Nathaniel and Helen Anna (Wiebe) Claassen. Aron was born May 11, 1894 and died June 23, 1970. Helen was born March 2, 1899 and died December 24, 1987.
On August 12, 1989 at Souderton, Montgomery Co., PA he was married to Gladys L. Moyer, who was born May 22, 1923 and died April 21, 2016. His first marriage was to Valois Penner on Aug. 2, 1950 in Beatrice, NE.
Surviving are children, Sharon Claassen (Bob Still); Carol Friesen (Vern Friesen); David Claassen (Sharon Starr); and stepdaughter Janelle Moyer (David Moyer); seven grandchildren, great-grandchildren.
Volunteered with first wife Valois (Penner) Claassen on the Hopi School at Oraibe, AZ. Al was very involved with CROP walks.
He lived a life of service.
Memorial services were held December 9, 2018 at Akron Mennonite Church, Akron, Lancaster Co., PA. Body donated to science; cremains to be interred in Souderton, PA and Nebraska.
Cramer, Edna W. Wenger, 81, of Lititz, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.
She was born in Warwick Twp. to Michael N. and Jennie S. (Wenger) Wenger and was the wife of the late Melvin S. Cramer who passed away in 1997.
She was a member of Crossroads Community Fellowship.
Edna was employed in housekeeping at the Mennonite Central Committee. She enjoyed crocheting, floral arranging, cooking and canning.
Edna is survived by two daughters, Joyce, wife of Wayne Langhuber of Manheim and Bonnie Cramer of Lititz, and seven siblings, Kathryn, wife of the late John Ebersole, Bertha, wife of Ben Brubaker, Mary, wife of John Becker, Michael W., husband of Mary Wenger, Anna, wife of the late Ron Reimer, Paul W., husband of Elsie Wenger, Martha, wife of Robert Harnish, a sister-in-law, Anna S. Wenger, a brother-in-law, Rufus Hoover and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 5 siblings, Mabel Ristenbatt Saylor, Grace Ebersole, Laura Hoover, Norman Wenger and Esther Wenger.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, from 10 to 11AM, at the Crossroads Community Fellowship, 1060 E. Newport Road, Lititz, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Kyle Buckwalter officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Culp, John Henry, 93, of Hesston, Harvey Co., KS died January 27, 2018 at the same place. He was born March 22, 1924 at Millersburg, Elkhart Co., IN to E.I. (Emanuel) and Cora (Smucker) Culp. On March 2, 1947 at Millersburg he was married to Mary Ellen Miller, who survives.
Surviving are children, David (Jennifer) Culp, Susan (Don) Gering, Anita Culp, and Paul (Mary) Culp; two grandchildren, great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Millard Culp, and Lester Culp, and a sister, Maurine Hess preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held February 10, 2018 at Hesston Mennonite Church, Hesston, KS with burial in Eastlawn Cemetery, Hesston.

GOSHEN - Violet M. Culp, 96, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Goshen to Frank H. and Martha (Lehman) Martin.
On Dec. 27, 1941, she married Marvin R. Culp in Goshen. He died April 3, 1983.
Survivors include seven children, Carolyn Heeter of Goshen, Phyllis Roe of Syracuse, Jo Ellen (Tim) Benson of Hollywood, Maryland, Delbert (Luetta) Culp of Indianapolis, Donald (Sara) Culp of Mio, Michigan, Dale (Cynthia) Culp of Goshen and Dennis (Lucinda) Culp of Syracuse; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan and Titus Martin.
Violet was a loving homemaker and member of Waterford Mennonite Church.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Thursday, Nov. 1, all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.
Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen.

Denlinger, A. Miriam Neff, 98, formerly of Esbenshade Road, Paradise Township, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late Harold D. Denlinger, who died in 2010.
A homemaker, she and Harold had retired from farming.
She was a member of the former Paradise Mennonite Church, where she was very involved in the sewing circle. She and Harold served as custodians at the church for over 20 years.
Miriam will be remembered for the beautiful quilts she made for her children and grandchildren, and the many comfort tops that she gifted to MCC.
Born in Paradise Township, she was the daughter of the late Emanuel C. and Ella (Witmer) Neff. Miriam is survived by three children: Carl married to Ruby (Hampton), Stanley married to Nedra (Kauffman) and Rhoda married to Allen Blank; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ruth Denlinger and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Rohrer.
The funeral service will be on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Ellingsworth Auditorium at QPRC, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA. The family will greet friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. Interment in Paradise Mennonite Cemetery will take place on Monday afternoon.

Derstine, Virginia May Martin passed away peacefully on April 21, 2018, at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Center (VMRC) in Harrisonburg, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Derstine; by her parents, Perry and Annie Martin; and by four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by a brother, John Martin, and a sister, Margaret Weaver, and by her two children, Jerry Derstine (and his wife, Jan Garrett) of Basalt, Colo., and Jean Cubbage of Harrisonburg, Va.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Virginia was born on a dairy and poultry farm in Harrisonburg on May 26, 1924. At four years of age, she was the poster child for “Shenandoah,” her father’s poultry equipment company. She met Norman when they were both high school students at Eastern Mennonite School in Harrisonburg. They were married under the crabapple tree at her family home on May 27, 1944.
Virginia was known as a gracious hostess and a devoted homemaker and mother. She was an enthusiastic supporter of Norman in his various roles: program director and announcer for the Mennonite Hour; minister at Trissels Mennonite Church, Broadway, Va.; minister at Roanoke Mennonite Church, Eureka, Ill., and director of Church Relations at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va.
In 1976, she and Norman traveled to Botswana, Africa, and remained there for two years while he served as director of religious broadcasting. Later adventures included travels to various churches in Iowa, Arizona, and Oregon, where he was interim pastor.
Virginia was famous for her shoo fly pie and for her rock garden (she collected rocks from all over the U.S.A). She says that some of the most meaningful worship times she had were out in the beauty of nature. She was known for her kind and gentle demeanor and for her radiant smile.
A memorial service, on what would’ve been her 94th birthday, will be held on May 26 at 10:30 a.m. in Strite Auditorium, VMRC, 1501 Virginia Ave., Harrisonburg, Va.

Derstine, Virginia May Martin, 93, of Harrisonburg, VA died April 21, 2018 at the Virginia Menn. Retirement Center, Harrisonburg, VA. She was born May 26, 1924 and married to Norman Derstine, who is deceased.
Surviving are children, Jerry Derstine (Jan); Jean Cubbage; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a brother, John Martin, and a sister, Margaret Weaver.

She is predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Arthur Mathys; her paternal grandparents, Harold and Emma Deveines.
Jenna was born on June 21, 1988 in Watertown, NY, a daughter of Harold and Linda Mathys Deveines. She graduated with honors from Beaver River Central School in 2006 and excelled in softball. Jenna graduated from Rhode Island College in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. At Rhode Island College, she played softball, and the team went to the Division III College World Series Tournament her freshman and sophomore years. Her junior year she was named to the Second Team All Little East Conference as a pitcher. For the next year after graduation, she did substitute teaching and went on to earn her master’s degree in Special Education at Providence College. She worked as a Health/Physical Education Teacher at Paul Cuffee Charter School in Providence and currently she was a Special Education teacher at John F. Deering Middle School in West Warwick, RI. She continued her softball career as the pitching coach at Providence College for three years. Currently, she was coaching the 12U travel softball team, and was also providing private pitching lessons. Jenna enjoyed traveling, hiking, and her two dogs Wrigley & Winnie.
Diener, Levi M., 84, of Arcola, Illinois passed away at 10:20 P.M. on Friday, March 9, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
Levi was born on January 28, 1934 in Moultrie County, Illinois. He was a son of Menno A and Barbara C (Gingerich) Diener. He married Laura A Herschberger on December 1, 1955 in Arthur, IL. She passed away on February 21, 2011.
He is survived by 4 sons and 3 daughters; Dennis (Susan Haynes), Arcola; Willard (Mary Miller), Arcola; Rebekah (Allan Borntreger), Oakland; Tobias Andrew, Arthur; Ruth (Ed Miller), Arthur; Irma (Glen Miller), Goshen, IN and Ira (Esther Hochstetler), Goshen, IN; 28 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ben M (Ella) Diener, Arthur; 2 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Joe (Lizzie) Diener, Mrs. Amos (Fannie) Otto and many more friends and relatives.
Levi was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Laura, 3 sisters, Lena (Albert) Mullet, Katie (Amos) Otto and Mary (Ervin) Miller; 3 brothers, Andrew, Enos and Joe Diener and 2 great-grandsons.

GOSHEN - Carl Patrick Dintaman, 72, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at Green House Village.
He was born June 3, 1946, in Sturgis, Michigan, to Carl E. and Salina (Christner) Dintaman.
On Aug. 2, 1998, he married Darlene (Martin) Hochstetler in Goshen.
She survives along with her children, Dawn (Dave) Weaver of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Rhonda Martin of Osseo, Minnesota, and Ryan (Anne Thiel) Hochstetler of Goshen; two grandchildren, Darton and Melia Weaver; three sisters, Phyllis Stutzman and Carol (Vernon) Birky, both of Goshen, and Pamela Dintaman of Cascabel, Arizona; and two brothers, Phillip (Judy) Dintaman of Howe and Stephen (Elizabeth) Dintaman of Harrisonburg, Virginia.
A 1964 graduate of Shipshewana-Scott High School, Carl went on to earn an associate degree in accounting from International Business College in Fort Wayne. He did his 1-W service in Denver, Colorado.
A member of Belmont Mennonite Church, Carl enjoyed biking, playing tennis and landscaping.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. An 11 a.m. memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 27, at Belmont Mennonite Church. Pastor Larry Rohrer will officiate.

Eash, Brent Allen

BRISTOL - Brent Allen Eash, 58, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, pastor, elder, farmer, musician, friend, and follower of Christ, died at home at 3 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2018.
He had been diagnosed with Lymphoma and Amyloidosis in 2014 and entered into hospice care in September 2017.
He was cared for at home by his family until his death.
Brent was born to Ted and Darlene Eash on July 17, 1959.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ted.
He is survived by his mother, Darlene; siblings Christina (Jim) Bromley, Mark (Kathy) Eash, Wendy Eash, and Tim (Malinda) Eash; his wife, Heidi; and children Audrey (Nestor Luna) Eash, Daniel (Andrei Regalado) Eash, Hannah (Philip) Eash-Gates, and Lauren (Mark) Eash Hershberger.
Also surviving are six grandchildren, Alexis, Elian, Jonah, Natalie, Charlie, and Leo, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Brent and Heidi (nee Schenk) graduated together in the 1977 class of Elkhart Central High School.
Later in life, he earned a Masters in Divinity from AMBS, taking extra classes in Hebrew and Greek because he so enjoyed developing the ability to study the scriptures in their original languages.
Brent was a devoted follower of Jesus and cared deeply for people and the church.
He served as elder at Prairie Street and Bonneyville Mennonite churches, as overseer/coach of several area congregations, as pastor at Shore Mennonite for 13 years, on the board of various organizations related to the Mennonite Church, and in leadership of the IN-MI Church Conference.
He counseled and mentored many.
He was eager to heed the call to volunteer, teaching Sunday School and ESL classes for many years.
While he relished the chance to make personal connections with people through various forms of ministry, caretaking of the land was also close to his heart.
He was a lifetime farmer and cherished time spent in the fields dragging a plow, taking great pleasure in creating a perfectly straight furrow.
Music was another passion, and he spent many years singing tenor with the Brandenburg Concert, a vocal ensemble based in southern Michigan.
Brent was a man of tremendous moral integrity and compassion.
He has taught those who knew him much about forgiveness, the importance of relationship, and following through on commitment through hard work.
He was a quiet and comforting presence in a catastrophe, a fountain of wit, and loved his grandchildren, as well as raisins in anything, sweet or savory.
He will be tremendously missed.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, Mennonite Mission Network or Prairie Street Mennonite Church.
Visitation will take place from 4-8 p.m. Feb. 9 and the at 10 a.m. Feb. 10, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Feb. 10.

LAGRANGE - Katie Mae Eash, 76, of LaGrange, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018.
She was born Oct. 21, 1941, to Daniel J. and Polly (Schrock) Eash.
Surviving are two sisters, Ada Miller and Edna Schrock; and a sister-in-law, Alma Gingerich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mabel Graber and Anna Eash; four brothers, Perry, Mahlon, Freeman, and Elmer Eash.
She had worked at Arc Opportunities of LaGrange County and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25 and all day Friday, Jan. 26 at the Christie Schlabach residence, 155 Union St., Shipshewana.

She was born Dec. 8, 1930, to Joseph T. and Ida Slabaugh.
She married Cornelius J. Eash.
Surviving are stepdaughters Rosanna Yoder, Wilma Anderson, Naomi Raber and Christina Miller; stepsons Melvin, Marion, Sylvan and Allen Eash; 33 step-grandchildren; three brothers, Tobias, Chris, and Lester Slabaugh; sisters Sylvia Miller, Edna Schwartz and Ida Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepmother; a stepdaughter and three stepgrandsons.

Eberly, Miriam S. Zimmerman, 85, of 1190 Oaklyn Dr., Narvon, died Monday, July 23, 2018 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan R. Eberly, in 2010.
Born in East Earl Twp., she was the daughter of the late Noah and Anna (Shirk) Zimmerman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.

Eberly, Paul "Pete" M., 78, of Loysville, was called home on Friday, March 23, 2018, at his residence. Paul was born in East Earl, Pennsylvania on June 2, 1939, a son of the late Martin M. and Minnie (Martin) Eberly. He was the husband of Esther Mae Eberly of Loysville, Pennsylvania.
He worked as a Cattle Farmer.

Ebersole, Anna Mae Lefever Rohrer, 99, of 2016 Horseshoe Road, Lancaster, went home to the Lord on Saturday, June 30, 2018. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Ella (Brackbill) Lefever. She was the loving wife of the late Abner Ebersole who died in 1985 and the late Elvin M. Rohrer who died in 1966.
A member of Mellinger Mennonite Church, Anna worked at Lefever's Flowers for many years. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
Anna will be lovingly missed by: daughter, Brenda married to Kenny Fisher of Lancaster; two grandchildren, BobbieSue married to Chris Burger, Jessie Ann Landis; sister, Ruth married to the late Vernon Good of Mechanicsburg; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Lefever of Lancaster, Ellene Lefever, Landis Homes; step-son, Jerry married to Melba Ebersole of Manheim; step-daughter-in-law, Jean married to George Hurst of Lititz; seven step-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren.

GOSHEN - Doris Ebersole, 95, of Goshen, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at her home.
She was born March 24, 1922, in Archbold, Ohio, to Oscar and Herma (Nofziger) Gautsche.
She graduated from LaJunta School of Nursing and worked as a nurse.
On June 17, 1951, she married Robert Ebersole in Archbold.
Doris was well known for her gifts of hospitality, cooking and welcoming presence.
She designed and made beautiful quilts for family and community. She also showed her creativity through cake decorating, flower arranging and oil painting.
She was an active member of Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold, and her mission every day was to be a faithful servant of God.
Robert survives along with four children, Donald (Carol) Ebersole of Goshen, Patricia (Joel) Zwier of Goshen, James (Carol Maynard) Ebersole of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Jon (Peggy) Ebersole of Oak Park, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild and four siblings, Mary (Victor) Diller of Midway, Ohio, Dale Gautsche of Archbold, Ohio, Alice Schmucker of Toledo, Ohio and Glenda (Tony) Hurst of Goshen.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Delmar and Richard Gautsche.
Visitation will be from 11 until the noon Saturday, Jan. 20, memorial service at Yoder Culp Funeral Home.

Ebersole, Ernest C., 93, of Landisville, died Saturday afternoon, February 3, 2018 at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster. He was the husband of Grace (Breneman) Ebersole.
Ernest was a retired master carpenter and knowledgeable antique tool collector. He worked for his father, C. S. Ebersole and later at the former Lancaster Community Hospital.
He was also known for his wood turning skills and as an avid fisherman. As a proud grandfather, he most enjoyed the four generation family gatherings, especially during the holidays and the annual pig roast.
Born December 13, 1924 in Conestoga Center, he was the son of the late Christian and Susan (Shenk) Ebersole. Ernest was a member of the Landisville Mennonite Church.
Also in addition to his wife, are four sons; Gerald, husband of Sharon, of Lancaster, Carl, of Elizabethtown, Rollin, husband of Terry, of Landisville, and Robert, of Lancaster; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Miriam, wife of the late Arthur Charles, Nyla, wife of Harold Witmer and a brother, David, husband of Mary Ann. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ethel, wife of the late Lloyd Metzler.

Eby, J. Wilmer, 78, formerly of Manor Township, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at Landis Homes, on Monday, June 11, 2018 after a long illness with lung cancer (adenoid cystic carcinoma).
Born in Paradise, Twp. on November 2, 1939, he was the son of the late Lloyd M. and Martha W. (Leaman) Eby.
Wilmer graduated from Lancaster Mennonite School in 1958. He married the love of his life, the late Anna M. Eby, on June 16th, 1962. They moved to Portland, ME to fulfill his draft obligation, to work in the Maine Medical Center for two years.
He spent 17 years as a dairy farmer after which he served Turkey Hill Dairy as Human Resource Manager until retiring in 2007. He and his wife also served as Pastor Couple for Masonville Mennonite Church for 10 years.
Wilmer served on the Board of Directors for Philhaven, Millersville International House as well as with other Christian organizations.
He was a devoted family man, married to the late Anna M. Eby for over 54 years who preceded him in death on February 24, 2017. He cared deeply about his children and grandchildren.
Surviving is a daughter, Mary Beth wife of Carl Ranck of Lancaster; three sons, Steven R. husband of Joyce Colligan Eby of Braintree, MA, Philip R. husband of Diane Bollinger Eby of Holtwood, and Andrew L. husband of LaRee Miller Eby of Portland, OR; and 11 grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mary Ellen wife of Dr. Ivan Leaman and brothers, John husband of Audrey Hartzler Eby and Dr. Marlin husband of Julie Eaton Eby.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 17th, 2018, at 3:00 P.M. at The West Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543. A Viewing will be held at West Bethany Chapel on Friday evening, June 15th, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. There will be no Viewing on Sunday; however, friends may greet the family following the service. Interment in the Masonville Mennonite Cemetery on Sunday at 1:00 P.M. for those who would like to attend.
Eby, Jessica Danae "Jess", 25, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in her home, while surrounded by her family.
Born June 16, 1992 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of Harold and Doris Herr Eby, Hagerstown.
She graduated in 2009 from Huyetts Mennonite School, Hagerstown, MD. She went on to teach Kindergarten and Second Grade at Huyetts for eight years. She also worked part time at the family's business, Eby's Lawn and Garden.
She was a member of Mountain View Mennonite Church, McConnellsburg.
She enjoyed several mission trips including "LA for Jesus", "Orphans for Jesus" in Mexico and the "W.A.T.E.R." Program in Grenada. Jess loved to travel. Her most recent trip was to Peru this past summer. She was full of life and happiness and easily connected with friends and strangers alike. She enjoyed photography and was passionate about music, leading her to not only sing on the church youth chorus but also to teach her love of music to others. She felt a strong connection with her students, concerning herself with how they were doing right up through her final days on this earth.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her siblings, Kevin (Charlene) Eby, Greencastle, Keith (Rachel) Eby, Hagerstown, Jennifer (Israel) Eby, Chambersburg; her paternal grandparents, Harold E. and LaVonda Eby, Hagerstown; her maternal grandparents, Glenn and Naomi Herr, Gettysburg; and her nieces and nephews, Devonn, Destiny, Raezel, Zander, Kylie, Natalie, Trevor, Kaden, Cole and Wyatt. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Ruth Eby.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday, January 22, 2018 in Gateway Ministries, 11017 Kemps Mill Rd. Williamsport, MD, officiated by Keith Clugston, Alan Clugston and Kevin Hurst. Burial will follow in Mountain View Mennonite Church Cemetery, McConnellsburg. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 21 from 2 to 4 PM and again 5 to 8 PM. There will also be a receiving time one hour prior to the services in the church on Monday.

Eby, Martin Zeiset, 97, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Oak Lea, VMRC. Mr. Eby was born Dec. 25, 1921, in Lancaster County, Pa., and was a son of the late Henry Musser and Anna Mae Zeiset Eby.
He owned and operated Eby Feed Service and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Harrisonburg Mennonite Church.
On March 24, 1946, he married the former Lydia Pearl Heishman, who preceded him in death on March 31, 2008.
Surviving are two sons, Ralph Eby (B.J.) and Jim Eby (Rita), all of Harrisonburg; eight siblings, Ethel Miller (Ed), Roy Eby (Margaret), Mary Weaver (Henry), Henry Eby (Virginia), Aaron Eby, Ann Hennelly, Ruth Penner (Marv), and Ivan Eby (Charlotte); three grandchildren, Sondra Eisenstat (Dan), Karmen Eby and Kevin Eby (Kara); two great-grandchildren, Isaac Eby and Isabel Eisenstat; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Eby was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Eby.
Pastor Craig Maven and Chaplain Steve Landis will conduct a memorial service Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Strite Auditorium at VRMC. The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will be held privately. The casket will be closed.

Surviving are children, Douglas (Rosene), Donald, Thomas (Lisa), Janette (John), Karl, and Suzette; nine grandchildren, and siblings, Mervin (Dona), Barbara (Jim Hurd), and Paul.
A sister, Verna Leaman preceded her in death.

Eby, Menno L., age 90, formerly of Gap, and most recently of Fairmount Homes of Ephrata, entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. He was the husband of the late Marian Landis Eby who passed away on February 9, 2004. He was born in Gap, son of the late Menno & Martha Landis Eby. He was a lifetime member of Hershey Mennonite Church of Kinzers, where in the past he was a Sunday School teacher and custodian for 20 years. Menno was a farmer in the Gap area for 30 years and then worked at various jobs, retiring from Stoltzfus Meats in 2004. In the past he was involved with the MCC Gap Relief Sale, Solanco Clothing Bank, White Horse Area MCC Meat Canning Committee, County Gift & Thrift Shoppe and Welsh Mountain Home. Visits with family were always special to him.
Surviving are three children: Dennis L. husband of Ellen Kauffman Eby of Gap, Doris A. wife of Gerald R. Metzler of Christiana, Jane L. wife of John D. Meck of Kinzers, 11 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson Joshua Meck, great-grandson Emerson James Metzler, three siblings: Mae Hershey, Ruth Gehman and Martin Eby.
Funeral service will take place at the Hershey Mennonite Church, 401 Hershey Church Road, Kinzers, PA on Saturday, February 17th at 11 a.m. with a viewing time from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Joseph Lab will be officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

WAKARUSA - Mildred "Millie" Eby, 100, Wakarusa, died 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at Miller's Merry Manor.
She was born Jan. 27, 1918, in Goshen, to Elmer and Dola (Mast) Barkey. On June 7, 1936, in Mishawaka, she married Charles E. Eby and he died Dec. 17, 2002.
Surviving are her children, Donald Eby of Centerville, Michigan, Fred Eby of Bremen, and Margaret (Gordon) Yoder, and Wyatt and Merlin (Kathy) Eby of South Bend, along with 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents and sisters, Opal Elizabeth Gunden and Fern Della Henderson.
Mildred was a farmer, homemaker, coordinator of Penn 4-H and worked at Wolfbergs Department Store and JoAnn Fabrics. She was a member of Olive Mennonite Church. Mildred was an excellent seamstress and loved her flower gardens.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa, and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. service on Thursday, Dec. 20, at Olive Mennonite Church, 61081 C.R. 3, Elkhart. Eby, Sally Louise Esh, 64, Manheim, died peacefully with her husband by her side on Wednesday May 16, 2018 at Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, Manheim. She was the loving wife of Jay Leonard Eby, and they would have celebrated 47 years of marriage on May 27th. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Eli and Sadie (King) Esh. Sally was a graduate of Oxford Area High School class of 1971. She was a member of Hernley Mennonite Church, Manheim. She was a CNA at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster for 13 years, and also at Brethren Village, Lititz for 7 years.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two brothers, John Esh (Crete), and Lloyd Esh (Arlene), and two sisters, Ruth Vega (Juan) and Mary Jane Hamilton. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Leroy Esh.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at the Hernley Mennonite Church, 746 Lebanon Road, Manheim, on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Esbenshade, Alta Burkhart, 99, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Oct. 17 under the care of Hospice and Community Care in Mt. Joy while surrounded by her family. Formerly of New Holland, she had been a resident of Fairmount Homes since 2010.
She was the wife of Adam B. Esbenshade with whom she enjoyed 75 years of marriage before he preceded her in death June 6, 2016.
Born in Bowmansville Sept 24, 1919, she was the daughter of the late David & Sally Hurst Burkhart.
During her earlier years she worked at the New Holland Garment Factory. After marriage she was a homemaker and support to her husband who was a pastor and church planter. She was a member at New Life Fellowship, Ephrata, PA. Alta enjoyed quilting and donated many quilts to various fund raiser events. Her family was very important to her, and she prayed daily for each one of them.
She is survived by her children: Geraldine (Geri) married to Ivan Martin, Cornwall; Wilmer (Wil), married to Janice, New Holland; Linda, married to Ray Geissinger, Mifflintown. Grandchildren: Rodney (Angie) Martin, Wendell (fiancée Melissa) Esbenshade, Denise (Tom) Oberholtzer, Wade (Jenn) Esbenshade, Dan (Joni) Geissinger, Judy (Chris) Mummau. Great-grandchildren: Caitlin & Ethan Martin, Davin, Myla & Sophianna Esbenshade, Katie & Quinn Oberholtzer, Julia, Valerie & Carter Mummau.
Being the last of her immediate family, Alta was preceded in death by siblings Ralph Burkhart, Lizzie Good, Lester Burkhart, Paul Burkhart and Grace King.

Eshleman, C. Raymond, 93, of Londonderry Village, Palmyra formerly of Cleona for 56 years died Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of Mary Newcomer Eshleman with whom he celebrated 72 years of marriage.
Born in Manheim on April 6, 1924, he was the son of the late J. Daniel and Mabel Hershey Eshleman. After his farming career in Manheim, he retired as the area manager for Hanover Brands.
Ray was a member of Fairland Brethren in Christ Church, Cleona where he served as a Deacon, Youth Leader, and Stephen Minister. He was a volunteer for RSVP of Lebanon County, served with his neighborhood crime watch, and enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are three sons Donald N. husband of Fay Eshleman of Stone Mountain, GA, Dennis N. husband of Deirdre Eshleman of Tubac, AZ, David L. husband of Cindy Eshleman of Jonestown, a brother Henry H. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. On March 13, 1958 he married Edna Helmuth. Leroy was a farmer and a minister of the Older Order Amish Church.

GOSHEN - Pauline Clemens Fisher died July 14, 2018, at her home in the Green House Village, Goshen.
She was 91 years old.
She was born to Clara Ruth Clemens and Ernest Rittenhouse Clemens on Nov. 15, 1926, in her mother’s hometown of Line Lexington, Pennsylvania.
When Pauline was 6 years old, her family moved nearby to her father’s community, Lansdale, Pennsylvania, situated more conveniently to his work as a banker in Lansdale and, eventually, as cashier of the Harleysville National Bank and Trust Co.
Lansdale and its surrounding region shaped Pauline’s interests and identity.
An only child, she benefited from participation in a lively network of relatives, neighbors and school friends.
Her father’s love of history and the natural world drew Pauline to accompany him to fishing ponds, birding outings and colonial-era cemeteries.
She also rode the train to Philadelphia to shop with her mother in Center City and to hear classical music with her parents in the Robin Hood Dell (where, in her teenage years, she also witnessed Dinah Shore introduce a young Frank Sinatra).
At the heart of Pauline’s youthful formation were the sermons, singing and social milieu of the Plains Mennonite Church, where her grandfather, Jacob C. Clemens, served as minister.
After the loss of her mother, Clara, to cancer in 1952, Pauline gained a stepmother in her former professor of French at Goshen College, Lois Gunden, through her father’s 1958 remarriage.
Following graduation with high honors from Lansdale High School in 1944, Pauline traveled west to attend Goshen College, where she received a bachelor’s degree in French and English education in 1948, again at the top of her class.
At Goshen College, she also met her life partner, fellow student John J. Fisher, whose return after graduate study to the English faculty at Goshen College anchored their lives as members of Goshen’s college and civic communities and of College Mennonite Church.
Theirs was an auspicious meeting of hearts and minds that produced two daughters and lasted 66 years, until John’s death in 2014.
In a classroom career spanning 40 years, Pauline taught English in North Wales High School (Pennsylvania), Middlebury High School, Bethany Christian High School, Towncrest Junior High School and Goshen High School.
For several terms, she also led teacher preparation courses and supervised student teachers for Goshen College.
Informally, she assisted her professor husband to lead numerous international study tours.
As a teacher, Pauline added to her formal training the natural gifts of communication, humor, and human empathy to win over students and educate effectively, whether elucidating “To Kill a Mockingbird,” driving home the parts of English speech or helping college students navigate the mysteries of the West of Ireland or communist East Germany.
Outside the classroom, Pauline supported her family’s well-being, women’s higher education, international student scholarships and peace studies.
She was a member over many years of the Goshen branch of the American Association of University Women, including serving as the AAUW president.
She was active in book discussion groups and in the collaborative Goshen community-college Afternoon Sabbatical program.
Following retirement, she joined her husband in the local organization Seniors for Peace.
Enthusiasm for the exploits of her five grandsons led to Pauline’s proud attendance at countless music performances and soccer matches.
A recent joy was the arrival of her great-grandson, James Ernest.
Pauline was an advocate for Goshen College.
Her generous hospitality over the years included entertaining notable guests of the college, including former Prime Minister Earl Clement Attlee, to whom she served porridge; Sen. Richard Schweiker, a childhood playmate; and the Irish poets Seamus Heaney and Peter Fallon, personal friends.
Pauline valued the many friendships she made, and retained, over a lifetime.
While she was a kind-hearted listener, she was also a good talker, with a sure ability to deliver an entertaining story.
She had an instinct for the fun and the funny.
She worked a charm on children, a trait inherited from her mother.
Even in her final years, as a resident of Waterford Crossing and the Green House Village of Goshen, Pauline’s compassionate curiosity won her new friends among neighbors and caretakers.
Upon Pauline’s passing a much younger acquaintance noted, “I felt like a co-conspirator when I talked with her – she was always detailing something she was excited about, as if laying out secret plans.”
Pauline is survived by her daughters, Susan (Lee) Fisher Miller of Evanston, Illinois, and Margaret (Jeff) Aeschliman of Salem, Oregon; five loving grandsons, Peter (Leah) Miller, Christopher Miller, John Miller, Spencer Aeschliman and Stuart Aeschliman; and a great-grandson, James Ernest Miller.
Visitation will be at College Mennonite Church from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 27.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, also at College Mennonite Church.

Pauline valued the many friendships she made, and retained, over a lifetime. While she was a kind-hearted listener, she was also a good talker, with a sure ability to deliver an entertaining story. She had an instinct for the fun and the funny. She worked a charm on children, a trait inherited from her mother. Even in her final years, as a resident of Waterford Crossing and the Green House Village of Goshen, Pauline’s compassionate curiosity won her new friends among neighbors and caretakers. Upon Pauline’s passing a much younger acquaintance noted, “I felt like a co-conspirator when I talked with her—she was always detailing something she was excited about, as if laying out secret plans.”

Fox Carl H., 77, of Myerstown, died on Friday, May 25, 2018, at his home. He was the husband of Mary Ellen (Diem) Fox.
Born in Hahnstown, on December 10, 1940, he was the son of Verna (Horning) Fox of Ephrata and the late Harvey S. Fox. He was a member of the Richland Mennonite Church where he served as a deacon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Thomas married to Tammy (Butler) of Myerstown, Charlene married to Earl Musser Jr., of Newmanstown, C. Eugene married to Lois (Hoover) of Lebanon, Daniel married to Jennifer (Reinford) of Russell, MA, Rachel Fox and James Fox, both of Myerstown: 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Four brothers and six sisters: Mary Ellen married to Samuel Stauffer of Myerstown, Jay Ervin married to Norma Brubaker of Reading, Ruth married to Ray Bowman of New Holland, Vera married to Vernon Martin of Ephrata, Verna married to Melvin Good of Long Island, VA, Lena married to Martin Hostetter of East Earl, Harvey married to Mary Ann Zimmerman of Lititz, Earl married to Lois Groff of Ephrata, Joan married to Gerald Nolt of Cheyenne, WY and Stanley married to Janet Martin of Ephrata.
He was preceded in death by a brother Charles Fox and his sister Arlene Fox and two grandsons David and Michael Fox.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. at the Fairview Reception Center, 141 Jackson Rd., Lebanon. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Richland Mennonite Church, 399 N. Race St., Richland. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

Fox, Emma S., 102, of 728 Gristmill Rd., Ephrata, died Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Fairmount Homes.
Born in Earl Twp., she was the daughter of the late John S. and Elizabeth (Stahl) Fox.
Emma was a homemaker and a member of the Stauffer Mennonite Church.
The last of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by eight siblings: Mabel Keiffer, Walter Fox, Clarence Fox, Maggie Zimmerman, Edwin Fox, Katie Brubaker, Harvey Fox, and Anna Stauffer.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the home of Jeffrey and Rhoda Martin, 193 Sensenig Rd., Ephrata with further services at 1:30 p.m. Stauffer Mennonite Church. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the Jeffrey and Rhoda Martin home on Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. Kindly omit flowers. Frank, Neal R., 72, of Perkasie, PA died June 29, 2018 at the same place. He was born May 3, 1946 at Englewood, NJ to Max and Viola (Ollert) Frank and married to Janet Remetta, who died March 31, 2003.
Surviving is a brother, Richard S. Frank. A sister, Ann Frank Potts preceded him in death.

GOSHEN - Fran Freed, 93, of Goshen, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at Greencroft.
He was born Aug. 30, 1925, to Francis and Laura (Smeltzer) Freed in Nappanee.
On Oct. 9, 1949, he married Marjorie E. Yoder who survives along with their three children, Cheryl (Randy) Seaman, Tim (Elma) Freed and Ron (Pam) Freed; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Fran worked for many years at Elkhart Products as a tool and die maker before retiring.
His final career move was as a volunteer at Greencroft where he pushed wheelchair residents to their therapy sessions for nine years. During those years he logged many miles and made many friends who were dear to his heart.
He was a member of Belmont Mennonite Church, Elkhart.
A celebration of life service is planned with visitation from 5:30 until the 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in the meeting house at Greencroft, Goshen Campus.
Burial will take place at a later date in Yellow Creek Cemetery.

Freed, Irene K. Moyer, 93, of Souderton, Montgomery Co., PA died January 7, 2018 at the same place. She was born September 28, 1924 at Franconia Township, Montgomery Co., PA to Raymond A. and Lizzie W. (Kratz) Moyer. She was married to Stanley R. Freed, who was born February 20, 1924 and died August 28, 1992.
Surviving are children, Geraldine Cassel & husband David; Elaine Myers and husband Merrill; Ruth Delp and husband James; Rhoda Mock and husband James; Stanley Freed and wife Rose; Stephen Freed and wife Renate; and Philip Freed and wife Susan; 19 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Stanley Moyer.
A grandson, Anthony Mark Freed, a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Joy Cassel, and siblings, Evelyn Dengler, Stewart Moyer, Ernest Moyer, Raymond Moyer, and Richard Moyer preceded her in death.

Fretz, Sarah Jeane Stutzman, 86, of Souderton, Montgomery Co., PA died May 30, 2018 at the same place. She was born August 21, 1931 at Upper Salford Twp., ____ Co., PA to James and Edith (Gross) Stutzman. On March 25, 1989 she was married to Clyde Y. Fretz, who is deceased.
Surviving are a, step-son, David Clyde (Mary) Fretz; two grandchildren, and siblings, Kenneth (Marlene) Stutzman; Merle (Lorraine) Stutzman; Lorraine (Ben) Myers; brother-in-law, Samuel Horst; Sister-in-law, Naomi Stutzman; Sister-in-law, Gladys (Daniel) Kolb; Sister-in-law, and Elaine (Merril) Derstine.
Two sisters, Mildred Stutzman, and Mary Ellen Horst; and four brothers, James, Jr., Marlowe, Donald and Dale Stutzman preceded her in death.

Frey, Clara I. Stuckey, 92, of Wauseon, Fulton Co., OH died October 30, 2018 at Archbold, Fulton Co., OH. She was born November 24, 1925 at Archbold, to Aaron and Sarah (Eicher) Stuckey. On August 1, 1946 at he/she was married to Warren Frey, who died December 27, 2008.
Surviving are children, Jerry (Jill) Frey; Shirley (Lonnie) Rychener; Kathy Poindexter; MaraBelle (Doug) Schmucker; and Allen (Amy) Frey; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.
A son, Samuel Frey; a son-in-law, Gordon Poindexter; and brothers, Walter Stuckey, Chester Stuckey, Joseph Stuckey, Earl Stuckey, Ivan Stuckey, Arthur Stuckey and Donald Stuckey; and sister, Anna Aeschliman preceded her in death.
She was a bookkeeper for Frey Construction, a quilter, and active in the church sewing circle.

LAGRANGE - Susie A. Frey, 92, of LaGrange, died Monday, June 4, 2018.
She was born April 22, 1926, to Andy and Sarah (Beachy) Kurtz.
She married Tobias Frey; he died June 12, 1999.
Surviving are two stepsons, Melvin (Alice) and John Frey; four stepdaughters, Ida Mae (Ervin) Stutzman, Elizabeth (Ora) Lehman, Barbara (Ervin) Fry and Lucy (David) Mast; 33 stepgrandchildren; 88 stepgreat-grandchildren; 26 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and sister Mary Bontrager.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; eight brothers; two sisters; and a stepdaughter-in-law, Velma Frey.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, and all day Wednesday, June 6, at the Wayne Yoder residence, 9120 W. 300 South, Topeka.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 7, also at the Wayne Yoder residence.
Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, LaGrange.

Friesen, Wilma Wenger, 93, of Hesston, Harvey Co., KS died March 9, 2018 at the same place. She was born March 11, 1924 at South English, Iowa to Homer and Velma (Cook) Wenger. On November 29, 1947 she was married to Paul Friesen, who survives.
Surviving are children, Kelvin (Karen) Friesen, Janice Roth West (Tom), Eric (Wanda) Friesen, Gregg (Joanna) Friesen, Jon Friesen, and Jennifer LeFevre (Dennis); 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Harry Wenger, and Wayne Wenger preceded her in death.
